It is hard to believe looking back on it. I used to be a professional photographer. Had a contract with a stock agency and a couple open contracts with manufactureres. The digital transformation left me behind. Mostly I think I became bored with sorting, fearful of having to become a wedding attendee and mostly I enjoyed traveling more than selling the images of traveling. These are photos I had published in various media. A handful of magazine covers, lots of promo stuff, quite a bit of editorial. I still have to sort through it.

summer 2001. Tracy Bowerman Surfing the east Cape. I got the trailer so stuck towing it down onto this point I was on the verge of tears. It all worked out as we got some good waves. This was one of my last trips to Baja. Surfline, the internet wave forecasts and ease of jetset access for the SoCal hordes broke my Baja spirit. This photo just presented itself, but I had been composing the idea for a while. Among her many qualities, I always admired Tracy's broad shoulders and the resulting curve down to her small waist. This wasn't my first choice as the board is blocking the focus point. A rare Patagonia shot with a vehicle. - Sierra Designs Catalog
An intentionally blurred surf shot to highlight the product. I worked at this for a bit and was happy with the results. Mike Leeds surfing a XXX - Biking to the ranch. Patagonia
This classic California girl came pedaling this bike through the brittle dust on the Troncones beach road. A lovely image but I had another in mind. I talked her into modeling for the shot at a different break. That is my brand new board. Melisa washed out on the first pass, crashed, scraped her knee and dinged the board. A little tape on the knee and board and we spent the rest of the day enjoying Classic Ranch sets -- alone and head high into the bay until late afternoon. I have video of the surf somewhere. - Stolquist Lifejacket Ad
Tony Brennan Surfing in the Blur shot. No one in the Rockies knew the significance of the point down pink triangle. The MaxTow system was recalled. - Dagger Catalog Inside Cover
A nice mood shot for the contrast of shadows on Cascasas Tamul. - Sit on Top Girl
Dagger goofing on Jen. Jen goofing on Katie. Baja sea kayaking -- a great trip for kids and kayaks. - Oars Catalog
Payette River Canyon. It is tough to get a photo with OARS. I actually wanted a different shot -- the steam coming off pine Flat Hotsprings just upstream. the sun was coming downstream and into the lens. I tried a variety of filters and settings and realized it was an afternoon shot. I packed up all the filters and gear and turned around to watch the rafts float through Gateway. I pulled out my camera and snapped off a few shots for the record. - Fluid Cover
Reflections in the sand of a girl reflecting on life in a sea kayak. A hidden bay on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. Jen built the sand castle while I composed this shot. Later we paddled out to the islands. After I climbed on top to look around. I could see a 10 foot shark darting around the rocks in search of food. - Outside Magazine
Outside Magazine Story on How to Kayak featuring Dan Givens. At least as a model. The old South Fork Surf wave. I got a lot of mileage out of this shot with F Stock. A bunch of other photographers copied it. Which I guess is flattering. - Puerta del Salto
I didn't take this photo. That's me in the blurry red boat. I helped set the shot in the sense that I took the photog there. We talked about options and I ran the falls, over and over. I'm glad patagonia picked this shot. I like to think it was to give me a pat on the back. I made the first descent of these falls with Adam Shandro. It is a great story and a page in my connection with Puerta del Salto. It is right at 15 meters and quite impressive. - patagonia-ad-blank

This is a photo of me taken by me. I saw the blue water and the depth of the image from the lip of the falls and knew what a great shot this would be. I set my camera on a tripod had a friend hold the shutter release while I ran the falls over and over and over. - paddler-cover-tamul
